What is Play Therapy?
Play Therapy helps children of all ages to express themselves in their own way; especially if they are struggling to understand how they are feeling, or are finding it hard to articulate their experiences and emotions.
What are the benefits of Play Therapy?
Play therapy creates a safe and non-judgemental space place for children to express their inner feelings, thoughts and experiences. Through Play Therapy sessions, each individual uses tools and materials to process their emotions and experiences which in turn makes way to the development of coping skills and self-esteem.
What can I do to help my child's process?
Throughout supporting your child's process while attending Play Therapy sessions there are many steps you can take:
-Being consistent and encouraging towards sessions.
-Respecting that Play Therapy is your child's time and space.
-Communicating any concerns to the Play Therapist.
-Validating your child's process and emotions.
What happens in a Play Therapy session?
Play Therapy sessions usually take place within a private Play Therapy room where the Play Therapist works alongside the child on a one-to-one basis. During the session, the play is child centred and non-directive which gives the child the opportunity to choose activities and materials. This can be explored verbally or non-verbally.
